The show’s producers announced in late August 2019 that they will adapt the KakaoPage webtoon Born in 1985 into a web series. By 11 August 2020, the casting of the series was almost over with Jung In-Sun, Kang Min-Hyuk, Ahn Hee-Yeon, and Song Jae-Rim as the main stars in the series. Later on 6 November 2020, Baek Sung-Chul also joined the casting crew and Cha Min-Ji joined on 13 November. The filming began in August 2020 and most of the series was filmed before its premiere.
The Plot of How to Be Thirty
The series tells the story of a budding webtoon artist Seo Ji-Won, who chose her career over love. She never fell in love with anyone after middle school and focused on her work since a young age. By the time she was twenty-five, she became a published author and gained some popularity. Now, at the age of thirty, she is a successful artist and author with her webtoon being adapted into movies. She works in a popular publishing company. Even in her early thirties, she never once sought a partner and continues to dedicate her time to work. However, that changed when her first love from middle school, Lee Seung-Yoo once again crosses paths with her. Seung-Yoo becomes a manager in the company and is responsible for editing her webtoon.
Cast and Character Details
Seo Ji-Won: Jung In-Sun plays the role of the main protagonist in the series. She is a 30-year-old webtoon artist who has a successful career. Her best friends are Ran-Joo and Ah-Young. Lee Seung-Yoo: Kang Min-Hyuk plays this role. He is the manager of the publishing company and is in charge of editing Seo Ji-Won’s webtoon. Lee Ran-Joo: Played by Ahn Hee-Yeon, he is a 30-year-old new presenter and Ji-Won’s best friend. Cha Do-hoon: Song Jae-rim plays the role of a film director who will direct a film which is an adaptation of one of Ji-Won’s webtoon. Hong Ah-Young: Cha Min-Ji is the actor for this role. Ah-Young is a 30-year-old cafe owner and best friend of Ji-Won and Ran-Joo. Hyung Joon-Young: Baek Sung-Chul plays the role of Ah-Young’s part-time employee at his cafe.
Episode Schedule of How to Be Thirty
The series every Tuesday and Saturday at 5 pm according to the Korea Standard Time, KST. South Korean streaming and broadcasting website KakaoTV airs this show at the scheduled time. The show runs for approximately 21 minutes. How to Be Thirty is scheduled to air 15 episodes for the first season. As mentioned earlier, the series stream on KakaoTV. However, the website is available for streaming only in South Korea. Moreover, the series is available with multilingual subtitles on iQIYI in South East Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. For other countries such as the UK and the rest of Europe, the series is available for streaming on Viki. Since the series is fairly new, it is not available on many websites.
