The series centers on Masaya Funabashi, a high school delinquent who is popularly known as “Devil Ma-Kun”. He always has a fierce expression and was the most intimidating delinquent in his junior high. However, now that he is in high school, he wants to change for the better and lead a peaceful life. This comedy series tells his story as he tries to reform his image by joining the Japanese tea ceremony club. He makes new friends within the club, and with their influence, he slowly begins to change as he learns about the tea ceremony. The manga has a decent fan base with 7.35 ratings in My Anime List. Also, on 20 April 2013, the manga series was listed in My Anime List of 10 Underrated/Unpopular manga that people should read.
Cast and Crew:
Takeshi Furusawa and Koji Takashi directed all the episodes. Takuya Kato and Shuji Yuki wrote the screenplay for the series. Yusuke Hayashi gave the soundtrack of the series. Naofumi Takiyama and Yuki Nakazato are the executive producers of the series.
Main Cast Members
Nobuyuki Suzuki plays the main protagonist, Masaya Funabashi. Masaya was labeled as a delinquent in junior high due to his tough appearance. This resulted in him getting into lots of fights. He decides to join the tea ceremony club because it is the only club whose representatives do not fear him and asked him to join regardless of his appearance. Toshiki Seto plays the role of Yamada Wataru. Yamada is Masaya’s friend since elementary school and they both have the reputation of troublemakers. Yamada is also Masaya’s partner in crime. Minori Hagiwara acts as Asakawa Kaho. Masaya calls Asakawa a “mad dog” because they don’t get along. Kaho suspects Masaya is trying to corrupt the club president and is not serious about participating in the activities. She initially tries to get rid of Masaya, but later develops a crush on him. However, after she realizes Masaya’s feelings for Naomi, she starts helping him get together with Naomi. Rinka Kumada plays the role of Naomi Anesaki. Naomi is the president of the tea ceremony club and she needed more members for her club to keep it running. She was the first person to ask Masaya to join the club. Even though she acted cool while offering him tea and asking him to join, her legs were shaking due to Masaya’s demonic stare. However, despite having heard of Masaya’s reputation, she believes he will not harm anyone and the club. Other Supporting Cast includes Tomoka Iikura played by Seira Nagashima, Tamami Shindaji played by Karin Nishina, Tamiko Okunuma played by Yuzuki Hirakawa, Kouki Kashizawa played by Naohiro Yamamoto, Kitanuma played by Shogo Hama, and Yo Tatejima played by Toru Nomaguchi.
